WRD Celebrates 45 Years of Service

In celebration of 45 years of service to Southern Los Angeles county, the WRD held a special anniversary Board meeting at the Reef in Long Beach on November 17, 2004.

The event was attended by many friends of the WRD, making this already special occasion even more meaningful.

The WRD was pleased to present its 2004 Public Service Award to the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers Watershed Council, and its 2004 Distinguished Service Award to Ron Gastellum, the President and Chief Executive officer of the Metropolitan Water District.

Swati Yana-ma-dala, a student from Chadwick Preparatory School and a participant in the Youth Groundwater Congress Conference in Washington, D.C., was presented a WRD plaque for investigating groundwater issues in the community of Palos Verdes Estates.

The WRD was honored to receive recognition awards from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the U.S. House of Representatives, the California State Senate, the United States Senate, the California State Assembly, the Los Angeles City Council, and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Groundwater provides for over one-third of the water demand for the Los Angeles region, and there are 43 cities and nearly four million residents living within the District's boundaries. Through hard work and innovative practices, the WRD continues to protect and preserve groundwater in the region to meet your current and future needs. We look forward to serving the people of southern Los Angeles county for many years to come.
