WRD has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for outstanding budget presentation and process for the fourth year in a row.
WRD, along with key Los Angeles area partners, was recently awarded the California Stormwater Quality Associations (CASQA) Outstanding Stormwater BMP Implementation Project for 2010. The award recognizes projects that advance stormwater quality management.
Robb Whitaker, General Manager for the Water Replenishment District (WRD), has been tapped as this year's recipient of the "Recycled Water Advocate of the Year' award from the California Section of the WateReuse Association. The award recognizes an individual who has made "significant contributions to the advancement of water reuse through active support and promotion of recycled water"I am honored to be receiving this award on behalf of the Water Replenishment District team," said Whitaker. "I am privileged to work with an incredible group of professionals on a daily basis and a Board of Directors committed to securing the future reliability of our groundwater through the development of local sources such as recycled water."
Robb Whitaker was selected by WaterReuse for his success in spearheading several of WRD's innovative water reuse and replenishment projects in the state.
Whitaker conceived the District's signature Water Independence Now (WIN) program. The WIN program is a nationally recognized model of local water supply development that includes the Leo J. Vander Lans Advanced Water Treatment Plant in Long Beach, California and the Groundwater Reliability Improvement Program (GRIP) in conjunction with the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County. These efforts replace imported water with highly purified wastewater for the protection and replenishment of the groundwater basins.
For five straight years, the WRD has been awarded the prestigious GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for outstanding financial statement presentation and process for its June 30, 2008 Comprehensive Annual Financial Statement Report.
The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) Program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
Reports submitted to the CAFR Program are reviewed by select members of the GFOA professional staff and the GFOA Special Review Committee, which comprises individuals with expertise in public-sector financial reporting, financial statement preparers, independent auditors, academics, and other finance professionals.
The purpose of GFOA is to enhance and promote the professional management of governments for the public benefit by identifying and developing financial policies and practices and promoting them through education, training and leadership.
